The Ohio State University

The Ohio State University

I worked for The Ohio State University for almost 3 years while I earned my degree there. Specifically, I was a Student Multimedia Assistant in the Office of Educational Technology for the College of Education and Human Ecology. While I recorded and edited many college events while I worked there, I was also given the opportunity to create original video content to be used by the college.

In August 2015, I was able to fill a temporary full-time position at EdTech, serving as a Systems Specialist. One of my first assignments after becoming full-time was executing the post production for a promotional video featuring the Dean of the college. I set up weekly meetings with the client to review footage from the multiple on location shoots that would make up the bulk of the video. These meetings allowed them to give me insight on which shots stood out to them and where in the video they wanted them to go. This project required a short turn around time and this process ensured that the video would be on par with the expectations of the client.

This is a commercial for a study space we hosted in our building. I made it the first summer that I worked there. Other than the opening shot (I borrowed Markus’s 50x zoom Cyber-shot)I used my T3i to shoot and Final Cut Pro to edit. I wrote out a storyboard and script for the video beforehand, and the second voice you hear in the recording is mine.

These next two videos were used as resources by students in the College of Education. Education students needed to record themselves teaching for one of their major courses. Our office was responsible for providing them with recording equipment they could use to do this. Our top rental was the Canon Vixia and many students had questions as to how the camera was used. As a result, I was assigned the task of creating a video tutorial based on how students could record professional looking video using the Vixia. Again, I storyboarded and scripted the video before beginning production. I provided the voiceover and also shot the entire video using a Canon Vixia.

This next video was made after the success of the Canon Vixia tutorial video. I was tasked with creating a video that outlined the best practices when conducting a video project. I again went through all the same phases of pre-production, basing this video on the steps I went through in creating the original Vixia video. My talking head parts were shot using a professional Canon camcorder.
